Samuel Logue

Samuel Logue, patriarch
The first Logue in Ohio

Samuel Logue (who was the father of Alexander, Abner, Martin, James, Emeline, and Samuel G. Logue) was among the pioneers who settled in Augusta County, Virginia in 1756 on the tributaries of the Cowpasture River. When he journeyed over the mountains from Botetourt County in 1804, horseback was the method of travel; everything that could be brought was packed into saddlebags.

Unfortunately, some of the information about Samuel Logue contained in the biography of Alexander Logue in "Gallia County History," Gallia County Historical/Genealogical Society, 1981, is mistaken. Samuel Logue of Gallia Co. was not the son of Samuel Logue who was in Virginia by 1756. Samuel of Gallia was Samuel Logue Sr.'s grandson. Samuel's father was William Logue, who died abt. 1793 in Botetourt Co., Virginia. On 20 October 1804 Samuel Logue Sr. of Bath Co., Virginia deeded part of his land to Samuel Logue Jr. of Gallia Co., Ohio, for the love and affection of my grandson Samuel Loague Jr., who is the son of my son Wm Loague, dec’d." (See, Greenbrier County, (West) Virginia Records, Vol. 1, Larry G Shuck, Iberian Pub. Co (1988)at
page 370.)
